This sculpture speaks to the quiet violence of indifference in New York City. A striped arm, echoing the warning lines found in the subway, reaches upward, offering a delicate nest of cobalt-blue eggs. They are fragile symbols of life, hope, and protection. Yet below, a second hand rests limp, and a small dark figure has fallen from above, lying on the ground, ignored.
This work is inspired by a moment in the subway where the artist witnessed a man collapse on the floor, unseen and unaided by everyone. This piece asks: Who do we protect, and who do we leave behind? In a city overflowing with people, how can someone become invisible, even while undeniably exist? This work is not a moral accusation, but a mirror. It reflects the contradictions we all carry, the desire to help and the instinct to retreat, the compassion we feel and the silence we choose. It is a fragile structure balanced on what we refuse to see.
